Old Fashion Canning & Preserving

Welcome to my blog on canning and preserving. Preserving food is becoming a lost art in this world of fast food and boxed foods. Preserving your own food is not only healthy and good for the body is good for the soul as well. It brings satisfaction and pleasure - knowing you have done your best to provide for your family.

You will also find links and information on dry mixes, dehydrating and freezing food along with gifts in a jar ideas. I hope you will join me in this wonderful old fashion art.

Winter Canning

The winter months can be used for canning and stocking your cupboards as well as summer. During the cooler months is the perfect time to can things like baked beans, chicken rice soup or jams and jellies from winter fruit like cranberries. With hunting season over it's a great time to can meats as well.

I love canning convenience foods and I will be posting more about my convenience foods later, including recipes. I also like to make my own mixes and give them as gifts to others. They are perfect for in gift baskets. We love chili so my chili seasoning recipe is a favorite here.

And for all the coffee lovers at your house there is any number of flavored coffees and creamer mixes to make. Amaretto coffee creamer is one of our favorites and the mix recipe is quick and easy. Just click on the links to see the recipes. I have even included gift tags for you to print.

I look forward to sharing with your family what my family does in the canning kitchen,
Belinda
